Learning how and where to apply certain eye shadow colors can be a challenge, but there are a few basic ideas that will help you:
* Pigment plays an important part in selecting which eye shadows will work for which purpose. The more pigment in a product, the more color depth you will see.
* Understanding texture is also important - whether a shade is matte, frost or very sheer.
* Most important of all to remember is: Light colors make an area appear fuller, where dark colors define an area and make it recede.
* Brighter tones can be blended over darker colors to mute the brightness and add a bit of accent, if desired.
* Shimmer shadows are beautiful on the top center of the eyelid and underneath the brow.

So if you want to do a basic contour of your eye, you will need a dark eyeliner at the base of your lashes, followed by a lighter tone all over the lid to the eyebrow, and a darker color in the outer corner and crease.
